Disaster Information

Citizens are asked to please not call the 911 Center for information regarding disasters or major emergencies. Please listen to your local radio and television stations for information or WAAC (FM-93 / 92.9 MHz). WAAC is the primary station for Georgia Emergency Alert System in our region. Lowndes County Emergency Management makes regular releases to local news media during major emergencies and disasters.

Weather Information may be obtained from the National Weather Service Website, local radio and television, and the National Atmospheric Oceanic Administration (NOAA) Weather Radio (WXM 79) transmitting for Lowndes County and area on frequency 162.5 MHz.

The CodeRed System is a free service implemented by Lowndes County and Facilitated by Lowndes County Emergency Management Agency may be utilized to conduct large scale emergency notifications quickly and efficiently. This system is used during instances such as severe weather, evacuations, boil water notices, ect. Customized messages can be delivered to every county resident or to specified geographic locations depending on the situation.
