1) the deadline to submit applications for Rezoning requests has been moved from today, September 1st until next Friday September 8th.

2) the TRC meeting for September 5th has been cancelled and meetings will resume on September 12th.

Lowndes County Board of Commissioner (LCBOC) Agenda Items i.e. rezonings, new telecommunication towers, etc.

        a.    The 1st of the month e.g. an application turned in September 1st 2023 by 5:00 pm would be heard by the Greater Lowndes Planning Commission on September 25th 2023 and then by the LCBOC on October 10th 2023.  

        b.    The new LCBOC related agenda items deadline will take effect September 1st 2023. 

Overview

The Office of the County Planner is responsible for assisting the Board of Commissioners and the county manager with the implementation and coordination of issues related to planning and decision making. Most commonly, these responsibilities involve land use.

From a policy standpoint, most responsibilities of the Planning Office involve the interpretation and administration of the Lowndes County Unified Land Development Code (ULDC) and the Lowndes County Comprehensive Plan (PDF).

Roles of the County Planner

Regular roles of the county planner include serving as chairman of the Lowndes County Technical Review Committee and presenting land use cases to the Greater Lowndes Planning Commission and the Lowndes County Board of Commissioners. Other responsibilities of the Planning Office include responsibility for the management of the Lowndes County Special Tax Lighting Districts and serving as secretary for the Valdosta-Lowndes Utility Council.
