Overview

The Office of the County Planner is responsible for assisting the Board of Commissioners and the county manager with the implementation and coordination of issues related to planning and decision making. Most commonly, these responsibilities involve land use.

From a policy standpoint, most responsibilities of the Planning Office involve the interpretation and administration of the Lowndes County Unified Land Development Code (ULDC) and the Lowndes County Comprehensive Plan (PDF).

Roles of the County Planner

Regular roles of the county planner include serving as chairman of the Lowndes County Technical Review Committee and presenting land use cases to the Greater Lowndes Planning Commission and the Lowndes County Board of Commissioners. Other responsibilities of the Planning Office include responsibility for the management of the Lowndes County Special Tax Lighting Districts and serving as secretary for the Valdosta-Lowndes Utility Council.
