Boards and Agencies
are autonomous divisions within the Lowndes County Government structure. These groups are elected, appointed or
employed to serve the citizens of Lowndes
County. Each of these is a vital part of our
government and provides valuable services to each citizen.
TAX COMMISSIONER
The Office of Tax Commissioner is one of
four Constitutional Officers in County
Government. Mary Nell Robertson,
Lowndes County Tax Commissioner, is elected by the voters of Lowndes County
to serve terms of four years. The Office
of the Tax Commissioner provides motor vehicle titling, registration and tags;
mobile home registration and collects real and personal property taxes. The Office of the Tax Commissioner provides
valuable assistance to the Citizens of Lowndes County with all aspects of their
taxes, including homestead exemption, disabled veterans exemption and timber
tax.
BOARD OF ASSESSORS
Earl Wetherington, Doyle Kelly, and W.G. Walker are elected by the voters of Lowndes
County to serve four year
terms as the Lowndes County Board of Assessors.
The Assessors Office prepares the personal and real property tax digest
for Lowndes County.
Lowndes County is the only county in Georgia with
elected members of the Board of Assessors.
LOWNDES DRUG ACTION COUNCIL (LODAC)
LODAC provides help to young people with alcohol
and other drug related problems. Services
provided include prevention, education, intervention, crisis response, counseling
and referral services. LODAC is funded
primarily by Lowndes
County and the City of Valdosta.
KEEP LOWNDES/VALDOSTA BEAUTIFUL
Keep Lowndes/Valdosta Beautiful is a non-profit organization dedicated to improving the quality of life for the citizens of Valdosta and Lowndes County. We are part of a national grassroots network of over 450 community-based organizations that are affiliates of Keep America Beautiful, Inc., a national non-profit public education organization. Our programs involve citizens, business people, civic leaders, and local governments in activities which educate the public about environmental issues, litter prevention, community beautification, and solid waste management improvement. All of this inspires individuals and gives a personal responsibility for our environment.
BOARD OF ELECTIONS
Members of the Board of Elections are appointed by the Lowndes County Grand Jury for three-year terms. Current members are Frank Morman, Jr., Chair, John F. Adams and Cheryl Oliver. The Board of Elections is responsible for overseeing the conduction of federal, state and local elections and redistricting, maintaining state ethics forms filed by elected officials and candidates, ensuring that all federal, state and local laws are complied with for all elections, and providing voter registration and voter education to the citizens of our community
