The primary purpose of the Lowndes County Sheriff's Office is to maintain social order within prescribed ethical and constitutional limits, while providing professional and courteous law enforcement services. Our fundamental duties are to serve humanity; to safeguard the lives and properties of our citizens; to protect the innocent against deception, the weak against oppression or intimidation and the peaceful against violence; and to respect the constitutional right of all persons to liberty, equality, and justice. To attain this, the Lowndes County Sheriff's Office enforces the law in a fair and impartial manner, recognizing both the statutory and judicial limits of our authority and the constitutional rights of all persons.
The Lowndes County Sheriff's Office recognizes that no law enforcement agency can operate at its maximum potential without the support of the citizens that we serve. The Lowndes County Sheriff's Office actively solicits and encourages the cooperation of all citizens to reduce and limit the opportunities for crime and to use the resources available to accomplish this goal.
Hours of Operation
The Jail division is open 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.
The Sheriff's Office is open Monday - Friday from 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM.

Traffic Fines and Reports
Fines may be paid at the Sheriff's Office during normal business hours or can be mailed to: Trial Courts of Lowndes County, P.O. Box 667, Valdosta, GA 31603. Fines can be paid by money order, Visa, MasterCard, cashier's check or cash(please do not send cash in mail). Personal checks are not accepted.
Incident and Accident Reports are available on request at the Sheriff's Office. As of 1 January 2007 reports will be available for a $5.00 charge.
Patrol Division
The Patrol Division has 40 members and is commanded by Captain Mike Weldon, who can be reached at 229-671-2900 or by email: Capt. Weldon. The Road Patrol Division is responsible for the response to both emergency and non-emergency calls; warrant service, enforcement of state and local laws and traffic control. The Road Patrol operates on 12-hour shifts and rotates every 28 days.
Special Operations Division
This Division includes DARE, School Resource Officers, Training, ICE, Narcotics and Special Operations. The unit is commanded by Captain Sam Temples, who can be reached at 229-671-3120 or email: Capt. Temples.
The Narcotics and Special Operations Division is commanded by Lt. Jack Winningham. An Agent can be reached by dialing 229-244-DRUG(3784) or email: NID/SOD. This unit is tasked with the investigation and suppression of drug activity and related vice crimes, and the tracking and apprehension of fugitives. The unit is comprised of members of the Special Response Team.
The ICE Team is commanded by Lt. Jim Hightower, who can be reached at 229-671-3115 or email: ICE Team. This division is responsible for the intensive patrol of the major roadways in Lowndes County, Georgia.
Jail Operations Division
The Jail Operations Division is comprised of 4 teams working 12- hour shifts rotating every 56 days and support staff. This division is commanded by Captain Jason Clifton, who can be reached at 229-671-3000 or email: Capt. Clifton. This division is tasked with the 24-hour care and custody of inmates at the Lowndes County Jail.
Visitation appointments must be scheduled Monday – Friday between 8:00 a.m. and 5:00 p.m. by calling 229-671-2999. Visiting hours are Saturday and Sunday beiginning at 8:00 a.m. and the last appointment at 4:00 p.m. There will be no walk-in visits.
You must be 18 years of age and have a valid identification; Drivers License, State Issued I.D., Military I.D. No other identification will be accepted.

Court Services Division
The Court Services Division has 14 members and is commanded by Captain Carl Smith, who can be reached at 229-333-5155 or email: Capt. Smith. This division is responsible for courtroom security, transportation of inmates, and serving civil papers.
Criminal Investigations Division ~ CID
The Criminal Investigation Division has 15 members and is commanded by Captain Wanda Edwards, who can be reached at 229-671-3150 or email: Capt. Edwards. This division is responsible for the investigation of crimes reported to the Sheriff’s Office and is also responsible for maintaining registry for all sex offenders in Lowndes County.
